Philips Electronics India Ltd has released new range of LED consumer bulbs, a 5W retrofit bulb along with the 2W candle and 7WSpotlight bulbs for various lighting applications inside homes for the Indian market. According to the company, the new range of bulbs are not only upto 80% energy efficient compared to traditional  incandescent bulbs but also are capable of producing better quality and more versatile lighting and has life of about 15 years.

Two SUPERVALU stores in Southern California has recently renovated with Acuity Brands'Lithonia Lighting®RTLEDTM system. It's said that SUPERVALU began a trial using the Lithonia Lighting RTLED at the end of 2009 in its Chestnut Hill Star Market in Newton, MA. Meanwhile, the Star Market served as a test ground for installing LED lighting and is the first grocery store in the nation entirely lit with LEDs.

Philips has launched 15 models of LEDs, 8 models of LCDs and 5 models of ultra slim TVs, which it said would redefine the premium television market in India. The price range of the LED TVs starts from Rs.26,500, while that of LCD TVs from Rs.16,499. The price range for ultra slim TVs starts from Rs.5,290. According to the company, it also will launch its flat panel TV range under the flagship model Cinema 21:9 TV, world's first cinema proportion 3D LED pro TV with ambilight.

LG Electronics has launched a 72-inch 3-D-equipped LED TV in the South Korea market. The new LED TV model features the largest screen among the 3-D LED TVs available in the market. The new product is priced at 20 million won (US$17,825). According to the company spokesman Park Young-shin, the 72-inch TV will be launched in the global market early in 2011.

America provider of digital projection and visual display products, FAVI Entertainment has been involved in the LED display market with the introduction of a 19" LED-backlit HDTV featuring high-definition resolution.   Available now in both a glossy white and piano black finish , FAVI's F19BL-TV/F19WH-TV offers best in class video and audio as well as superior energy efficiency (only 40 watts of power consumption). Both of them are at the price of $197.  

Green RG Management, LLC (Green RG) has given Green Energy Management (GEM) a license to market exclusively and distribute patented and proprietary LED technology (the "Technology"). According to the independent testing of the Technology, compared to existing LED technology that typically provides up to 25,000 hours of bulb life, it can produce lighting products capable of providing at least 50,000 hours of bulb life.

Benefit from the subsidy from the China government amid significant market demand, Taiwan LED chipmaker Tyntek has decided to pour 153 million yuan (US$4.94 million) to build a LED production joint venture with the Fuzhou government in China. The total investment for the joint venture will achieve to 353 million yuan.

Carmanah Technologies Corporation has set up a strategic partnership with the world's leading manufacturer of deep cycle batteries, Trojan Battery Company.   According to the agreement, Trojan's deep cycle batteries will provide energy storage for Carmanah's EverGEN(TM) portfolio of outdoor solar LED lights. 

According to the division's chief of General Electric, its lighting unit may draw as much as 75 percent of sales from LED products within the next decade, compared with less than 10 percent now, which means rising competition among GE suppliers is helping cut the cost of the chips used in the bulbs.   It's said that U.S. legislation will bring an end to production of the 100-watt incandescent bulb in 2012, prompting consumers to switch to other types including halogen and compact fluorescents. Lower-wattage incandescent bulbs will be phased out later.  

America Energy Conservation Program of the Navy has installed 120 W EvoLucia LED street lights. It's the first major government order for Sunovia. The General Services Administration contract was awarded in earlier 2010. A marine base in North Carolina called Camp Lejeune was the first government customer of Sunovia. And Camp Lejeune had installed the EvoLucia LED streetlights in the campus in December, 2009.

AIXTRON AG announced that in the second quarter of 2010, Formosa Epitaxy Inc. (FOREPI), placed an order for a 56x2-inch AIX G5 HT MOCVD reactor which will be used for ultra-high brightness (UHB) GaN-based LEDs. Planned to be shipped in the fourth quarter of 2010 it will join FOREPI’s multiple high throughput Planetary Reactor systems at the company’s state-of-the-art facility in Lung-Tan, Taoyuan, Taiwan.

TDK Corp showed flexible and see-through passive matrix OLED panels at Ceatec Japan 2010 from Oct 5 to 9, 2010.   According to TDK, the flexible OLED panel is as thin as 0.3mm or less. The weights of the color-display and monochrome-display models are 1.11g and 0.96g, respectively.

The ASMT-YTx2 surface-mount devices are encapsulated in a heat- resistant silicone material, enabling them to operate in a wide range of environmental conditions with high reliability and long operating life.

Carmanah solar LED airfield lights have been selected by the Calgary Airport Authority in a competitive bid situation as part of a massive facility upgrade.   The first phase installation includes Carmanah A704-5 solar LED airfield lights fitted with blue LEDs for taxiway edge lighting that can be easily relocated as airfield construction demands.

American 3,600-square-foot CITGO sign perched beyond the left field wall at Boston's Fenway Park has got an LED makeover. The iconic CITGO sign and its 9,000 feet of dancing LED lights, is having all of its LED lights replaced with more technologically advanced and energy efficient LED bulbs supplied by Nichia and Agilent.

LED chip maker Epistar had successfully developed a record efficacy of 168 lm/W for red-emitting AlGaInP LED chips in their lab. The small-area LED chips measure 14x14 mil (0.36 x 0.36 mm), and have an efficacy of 180 lm/W at 6mA. The red LED chips have a horizontal structure to satisfy chip-on-board (COB) packages for lighting applications which require multiple chips mounted in series on non-conductive substrates.

According to the Taiwan Lighting Fixture Export Association (TLFEA) and Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), Taiwan International Lighting Show 2011 will be held March 18 to 21 at the Taipei World Trade Center.   It will cover lighting for household, commercial, industrial, office and outdoor applications, as well as LED technology, parts and accessories, control systems, manufacturing equipment and instrument sections.
