Cree has filed complaints with the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) and the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin against Feit Electric Company, Inc. and its Asian supplier, Unity Opto Technology Co., Ltd., to curb infringement on Cree’s patented technologies and to address Feit’s false and misleading advertising claims that certain of its products meet ENERGY STAR® specifications. Epistar Corp. and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Epistar will control 94% of TSMC SSL holdings after this acquisition. Epistar’s acquisition of TSMC SSL has been confirmed this week. In a joint press release the two companies reveal Epistar will acquire a 94% share in TSMC SSL. There are also a lot of new LED applications at CES 2015 this year. Japanese electronic giant Sony is entering the competition with its audio speaker LED lights and LED display, while auto makers Mercedes-Benz and BMW dazzle the crowd with their advanced lighting solutions. Another Japanese manufacturer Panasonic is working on acquiring larger market shares in the ASEAN region, according to Malaysian newspaper The Star.
