Reportedly, Taiwan Delta Electronics made a plan to roll out a total of 62 LED lighting products under 29 series and three intelligent control systems in 2011. Taiwan Delta Electronics was reported to target to significant growth in LED lighting shipments in 2011. According to company spokesman Jesse Chou , Delta shipped nearly 1 million energy-conserving and -environment-friendly lighting units including street lights, light balls, lamps and units for commercial use in 2010, while this year’s shipments would surpass those figures. Taiwan LED packaging manufacturer VisEra Technologies is reported to put its manufacturing emphasis on high-power packages dedicated to light bulbs in 2011.  At present, the company produces 2,000 200mm wafers of packages a month, roughly equal to four million packages. It’s reported that Taiwan LED maker Everlight has teamed up with 10-some international iconic manufacturers, including Philips, Mitsubishi Chemical, Panasonic (China) Corp., and the Oulin Group to sign an agreement on the development of LED grow light systems addressing mainland China market. Taiwan Photonics Industry and Technology Development Association (PIDA) has recently predicted that the local LED industry will grow at a moderate pace in 2011. According to PIDA , the output value of the global LED industry grew an increase of 68 percent from US$9 billion in 2009 to US$15.1 billion in 2010, and the number will further increase by 38 percent to US$20.8 billion in 2011.

LED chipmaker Formosa Epitaxy 's December revenues fell 25% sequentially to NT$300 million (US$10.23 million), and revenues for 4Q10 came to NT$1.1 billion, down 23% sequentially. But the company's full-year revenues increased 121.5% from 2009 to NT$4.64 billion thanks to strong TV backlight demand.

Recently, industry sources revealed that Taiwan-based LED packaging house Ledtech Electronics is likely to get orders for approximately one million LED light bars used in chain stores from a state-run enterprise in China in late January, 2011.

LED chipmaker Epistar's revenues for December were NT$1.44 billion (US$49.24 million), dropped 13% compared to November. The revenues for the full year in 2010 reached NT$19.76 billion, up 55% from 2009.

Recently, Taiwan LED manufacturer Aeon Lighting Technology (ALT) has successfully acquired the LED Streetlight CNS Mark, making it Taiwan’s first LED-streetlight manufacturer to pass inspections of the world’s first industry standard dedicated to LED streetlights. In the meantime, it also released its latest versions of its LED lamps, such as Orion-coded T8 light tubes, chandelier bulbs, SO2-coded streetlights, BR lamps, and GX5.3 MR16 lamps in the fourth quarter 2010.

LED chip packaging company Wellypower Optronics announced its consolidated revenues for December 2010 hit a record high of NT$820 million (US$28.16 million), and the company got revenues of NT$8.9 billion in the whole years, up 25.4% on year. In December, Wellypower’s LED products sales had a 55.62% share in the total revenues, while CCFL sales was at NT$319 million (38.93%) and lighting products was at NT$44.67 million (5.45%). 4Q10 revenues were NT$2.39 billion, which better than market expectations.

Recently, Everlight has taken the leads in the world’s first 3rd party verified Carbon Footprint Declaration of LED products by SGS, an international certificate organization that follows the PAS 2050：2008 standard verification from United Kingdom Accreditation Service.

Lextar Electronics ("Lextar" or the "Company") (TAIEX: 3698) has announced its preliminary December 2010 revenue of NT$ 660 million, comparable to that of November 2010 up by 16.6% and up by 85.8% year-over-year. In the forth quarter of 2010, Lextar’s unaudited revenues totaled NT$ 1.73 billion. For the year ended December 31, 2010, unaudited revenue totaled NT$ 8.1 billion, a 297% Y-o-Y increase. LED chip packaging company Unity Opto Technology’ revenues for December 2010 were NT$510 million (US$17.51 million), down 8.9% sequentially but increasing 30% on year. The accumulated revenues for the full year were NT$6.77 billion, up 69% compared to 2009. Looking forward, both new LED backlit units and new clients were expected to ship much more in 1Q11. LED lighting products’ revenues were also expected to reach 20% in the total revenues in 2011 compared to 13% in 2010.

A leader of Ledtech Electronics introduced, in 2011, the company would emphasis on the indoor lighting and low-temperature lighting market, working hard for revenue up 50% on year, which meant about NT$2.6 billion (US$89.27 million).

Plants need different light spectrums in different growing stage, when small young seed needs the blue light to get leaf strong and mature plants need the red light to reproduce and set fruits or flower.

Arima Optoelectronics had got the first segment of patent licensing charge from its Chinese joint venture in Shanxi. The total licensing charge was CNY270 million and the joint venture would pay the full amount in five years with the first installment of CNY120 million (US$15.45 million) and CNY102 million after tax.

For all of 2010, Thinking Electronic Industrial posted revenues of NT$4.33 billion, increasing 35.8% from a year earlier. December consolidated revenues were NT$367 million (US$12.61 million), down 3.7% sequentially. In January of 2011, the company started to receive orders as usual, and Thinking's capacity would remain tight in 1Q11 as the company's new plant in China would not come online until 3Q11. But 1Q11 revenues would remain low compared to 4Q10, following the impact of the Chinese Lunar New Year holidays.

Industry sources estimated Richtek Technology 1Q revenues in 2011 would be up 5-10% sequentially, with it's working hard in the handset, LED backlight and consumer electronics. In 2010, 4Q revenues were expected to top NT$2.6 billion, which was higher than the company's projection of NT$2.2-2.5 billion, with gross margin down about 35-38%. Except that, Richtek had completed a buyback of one million company shares from the open market at an average price of NT$253.53 per share.

It’s reportedly that Taiwan's Laser Tek planed to acquire a small- to medium-sized company specializing in surface-mount-technology (SMT) equipment, in order to advance its semiconductor equipment portfolio.

In 4Q10, the LED-backlit shipment which were applied LCD TVs, monitors and notebooks, had a 40% share in the Chimei Innolux's(CMI) total panel shipments, and it’s expected to reach 50% in 1Q11. In the CMI’s LED-backlit applications, TV panel shipments had a 15%, and monitor panels accounted for 30%, with 100% of notebook panels in 4Q10.

Taiwan monocrystalline sapphire ingots’ manufactory USI Optronics reportedly expected its global market share to increase to 13-15% in 2011, with its orders beyond its production capacity in 1Q of 2011. The sources pointed out, in the end of 2010, USI Optronics produced monocrystalline sapphire ingots to increase 220,000mm every month, and planed to increase to 550,000mm at the end of 2011, which was decided by the perfect quality and competitive price. Also, the company’ global market share would rise in 2011.

It’s reported that Alpha Plus Epi Inc., the epi-wafer subsidiary of Tyntek Corp. will spend US$30 million to add 10 to 15 MOCVD chambers in 2011. At present, Alpha Plus is testing seven MOCVD chambers which were recently tooled at its factory in Taichung Industrial Park.

It’s reported that Japan-based Mitsui & Co, which had a huge business network with business involving in the monitor and automobile industries, would purchase 74.693 million to Taiwan LED chipmaker Formosa Epitaxy’s private placement, with having a 15% stake, while Unity Opto Technology would increase its investment and purchase 15.307 million of stake.
