Epistar Places Multiple System Order - 150th Aixtron MOCVD Production Tool

AIXTRON AG yesterday announced that it has recently received a further multiple system order from Epistar located at the Hsinchu Science-based Industrial Park, Taiwan. The order, to be delivered during 2009, was received in Q2 and will commence delivery in Q3 of 2009. This recent order comprises of CRIUS® Close Coupled Showerhead® (CCS) reactors and AIX 2800G4 HT Planetary Reactor® systems for volume production of GaN-based LEDs.

Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition 2009 — Taiwanese Manufacturers Everlight As Taiwan’s largest LED packager, Everlight certainly did not miss the event this year. Apart from LED components, the company also exhibited its LED lights for indoor and outdoor use. Shanghai Yaguang Lighting Co, Everlight’s China-based partner, also attended the event. Hon Hai of Taiwan Invests in LED Wafer Ingot Segment

Hon Hai Precision Industry Co, currently Taiwan’s biggest manufacturing conglomerate in terms of revenue, will enter into LED (lighting emitting diode) lighting segment by investing in Alpha Xtal Technology Corp. of Taiwan, which manufacturs sapphire-based wafer ingots, the material for making LED epitaxy wafers. After acquiring Alpha, Hon Hai can equip itself with integrated capability for LED lighting manufacturing. The company now has LED packaging and lighting module affiliates.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, or TSMC, the world's largest contract IC maker, plans to explore business opportunities in the green energy sector, including light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and solar energy. LED Backlit Panel Shipments to Reach 104.5m

Light-emitting diodes (LED) back-lit panel shipments for computers and TVs are expected to grow to 104.5 million units by the end of 2009, with a market penetration above 25 percent, comparing with 12 percent now, a market researcher recently said. LED back-lit computer and TV panel shipments would exceed the shipments of those with cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamp liquid-crystal-displays (LCD) in the third quarter, the researcher said.

Mainland China Procurement Delegation to Bring Lucrative Orders to Taiwan LED Industry

A procurement delegation from mainland China is currently visiting Taiwan, and according to members of the delegation, would place lucrative contract orders with the island’s light emitting diode (LED) manufacturers by the end of this year, the Taiwan Economic News reports. The orders will include LED products like epitaxy wafer, chips, packages and lighting systems. Chinese government has brought forward an aggressive plan to install 1.4 million LED streetlights in major cities by the end of 2009 as part of its energy-saving effort.

Epistar Optimistic on Q3 Prospects, while Forecasts Limited Rise in Revenues

Epistar Corp, Taiwan’s biggest LED chipmaker, Tuesday said that it is optimistic over the next quarter’s prospects, as demand for LED chips used in new applications such as LED TVs keeps growing, reports the Taipei Times. Taiwan to Take Aggressive Green Measures to Save Energy

In Taiwan, the government is to take five measures to cut greenhouse-gas emission and save energy at total budget of NT$1.2 billion (US$37 million at US$1:NT$33) over the next three years, according to Economics Minister C.M. According to the industry research institute LEDinside, total revenue of Taiwan’s listed LED manufacturers in April, 2009 was NT$5.361 billion, growing by 9.1% (YoY -13.4%) comparing with March, 2009. The total April revenue of LED chip manufacturers was NT$2.089 billion, up by 4.4% than a month earlier; and the revenue for LED packagers was NT$3.27 billion, growing by 12.4%comparing with March.
