Nazdar Ink Technologies has announced its partnership with Focus Label Machinery, a UK based label printing company, for driving the growth of UV LED technology within the label converter market in the UK and EMEA. The two businesses are collaborating to demonstrate the efficiency of UV LED curing technology at Focus Label Machinery's Bingham, Nottinghamshire-based offices in the UK.

Japan-based NGK Insulators has developed a quartz glass Micro-lens equipped with a cavity to arrange UV LED chip.

Japanese UV LED company Nitride Semiconductors has announced to establish a subsidiary, Micro Nitride, to focus on the developing and manufacturing of Micro UV LED chips for micro LED display.

Professional UV and IR LED manufacturer High Power Lighting (HPL) has partnered with Epileds to establish a joint venture, Bioraytron. Bioraytron is a DUV LED manufacture company specializing in vertically integration of DUV LED from the production of epitaxy and wafer to packaging. Bioraytron will participate in BioOpto Japan 2018. The 10th BioOpto Japan will be held from October 17th to 19th 2018 in Chiba, Japan.

Dr. Hiroshi Amano, a 2014 Nobel laureate in physics, delivered a lecture at Academia Sinica, Taipei, Taiwan on October 3rd, sharing his research progress on GaN blue LED with Prof. Isamu Akasaki and how he has transferred his research focus from blue LED to UV LED and GaN power. Sensor Electronic Technology, Inc. (SETi) announced that it has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against two companies, Bolb and Quantum Egg (Q-egg), in the U.S. District Court in California, accusing them of selling UV LED sterilizer products which infringe LED patents of SETi. 

Lextar reported its financial report for the second quarter of 2018 with a consolidated revenue of NT$ 2.98 billion (US$ 97.24 million), up by 12.6% QoQ. The net profit came to NT$ 50 million (US$ 1.63 million). For the first half of the year, the revenue was NT$ 5.63 billion (US$ 183.71 million) with a decrease of 8.8 YoY, while the net profit dropped by 75.5% to NT$ 12 million (US$ 391,572). 

The Korean UV LED solution provider, Seoul Viosys, has launched its new product UV WICOP which combines Seoul Semiconductor’s WICOP LEDs with compact and high efficiency technology.

LED vertical integration manufacturer Lextar Electronics registered a revenue of NT$ 950 million (US$ 31 million) for July, up by 4.3% MoM and down by 15% YoY. The company said it has adjusted its product portfolio by radically reducing the share of general lighting products and targeting customized LED lighting modules and high power LED for special applications.

LG Innotek announced that the company has filed a lawsuit against Evergreat, a U.S. based UV nail dryer manufacturer, for patent infringement. The lawsuit alleges that Evergreat used LG Innotek's LED chip technology patents in all of its 10 UV nail dryer models without its permission. 

The U.S. based molded glass manufacturer Kopp Glass has announced its research“The Effects of UV Glass Optics on UV LED Arrays,” which presents how molded optics can be used to increase UV LED efficiency and performance.

On July 12, 2018 (Japan time), Nitride Semiconductor Co., Ltd. ("Nitride") filed a patent infringement lawsuit with the Tokyo District Court against Digi-Key Corporation d/b/a Digi-Key Electronics ("Digi-Key"), which sells UV-LED products on the internet that are manufactured by RayVio Corporation ("RayVio"), a CA-based UV-LED manufacturer, and RayVio. In the complaint, Nitride is seeking injunction(including destruction of infringing products) and damages, asserting that Digi-Key and RayVio infringe Nitride’s patent (JP 3,285,341, “Method for Manufacturing Gallium Nitride Compound Semiconductor”) by manufacturing and selling the UV-LED products

LG Innotek launched the new brand “InnoUV” and planned to adopt the new brand logo to all of its UV LED products. The name “InnoUV” combined ‘innovation’ and ‘UV’, according to LG Innotek, it represents “an LED that embodies LG Innotek’s innovative UV technology.”

Violumas announces their new venture into the UV LED market. Violumas is the latest UV specific branch from Silicon Valley-based company Flip Chip Opto. Flip Chip Opto focuses on high power COB light engines based upon their proprietary 3-Pad Flip Chip featuring super-pillar MCPCB technology. Flip Chip Opto creates the most powerful COBs on the market, focusing on industrial and horticultural applications.

LG Innotek today announced it will participate in RadTech 2018, North America's largest UV fair in Chicago, Illinois, on the 7th to 9th of this month.
