AMS Spectral UV – A Baldwin Technology Company reports that Kyburz Druckerie of Zurich, Switzerland has retrofitted an AMS LED-UV curing system onto its MAN Octoman commercial web press, replacing the former drying system and making it the first press configuration of its kind in the country. Installed with the support of AMS distributor Chromos AG, a video of the press running shared by AMS on its facebook page garnered more than 12,000 views in a week, showing that people around the world remain interested in the printing process, and how the printed works in their everyday lives are created.

Capital Colour purchased an RMGT 920ST5+LED+CUV 5-color sheetfed offset press with both Panasonic LED UV instant ink curing and Grafix HiCure UV coating systems. The press is the first of its kind installed in Western Canada running with both LED UV ink curing and HiCure UV coating systems.

Taiwan’s major annual optoelectronics industry exhibition, Photonics Festival 2017, will be held in Nangang Exhibition Hall of Taipei World Trade Center from June 14 to 16. Some of the highlights in the LED section of this exhibition includes products for the automotive industry and applications related to ultraviolet (UV) LEDs. Eco-friendly purification of water – UV light is already being used to kill water-borne germs but the light sources used for this purpose are still predominantly mercury vapor lamps. UV LEDs have so far proved unattractive for reasons of cost. The aim of the UNIQUE project funded by the Bavarian Ministry for Economic Affairs, Media, Energy and Technology is therefore to develop high-power UV LEDs for industrial use. The project, which is being coordinated by Osram Opto Semiconductors, involves five Bavarian companies and research institutions.
