One of the oldest and largest Romanesque churches in Europe, the Saint-Gertrudis Church in Nijvel, Belgium needed a new interior lighting solution that would emphasize its detailed architecture and artwork. Philips Color Kinetics provided the church with a LED lighting solution and helped it achieved its goal.

The Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Bridge in Boston, Massachusetts, USA is one of the widest cable-stayed bridges in the world. Named for both the local civil rights activist Leonard P. Zakim and the American colonists who fought at the Battle of Bunker Hill, the ten-lane bridge spans the Charles River and carries over 200,000 cars each day to and from major interstates on the north side of the city. At night, lit with bright blue light, the Zakim Bridge is an instantly recognizable feature of the city skyline. In an interview with The Boston Globe, bridge architect Miguel Rosales said: “the bridge is supposed to have the feel of a regal entry to Boston, the towers bathed in blue, the cables highlighted in gleaming white."

I remembered that I couldn’t appreciate the beautiful karst landscape at all as the over-colorful lighting kept distracting me. There were several scenic areas in the Silver Cave and each was assigned with different name and story according to its shape and people’s imagination. I was totally overwhelmed by the overly-elaborated stories and the overly-lit colorful stones.

Designed and built by University of St Joseph (Macau) third- and fourth-year architecture students, Pulse Bamboo Pavilion was on display at Plaza Sai Van, adjacent to Macau Tower, from 1-10 June 2013. Led by two guest professors, the students choose Traxon’s Dot XL-9 system to create an astonishing lighting effect at night.

The 20th Cross Strait Conference on Lighting Technology and Marketing organized by Taiwan Lighting Fixture Export Association (TLFEA) and China Illuminating Engineering Society (CIES) was held in Taipei, Taiwan on November 26th and 27th . On the afternoon of 26th Nov., the conference was divided into two chambers to discuss lighting technology and lighting application respectively. Being opened to traffic on March 29th, 2013, the Dragon Bridge, which was designed by the US-based Ammann & Whitney Consulting Engineers with Louis Berger Group, is the second bridge run across the Hàn River. The bridge is shaped as an eastern dragon and illuminated by Philips luminaires so it looks like a true dragon surfing on the water.

Taipei World Trade Center is a postmodernist style architecture constructed with “bricks.” During the 1970s, the Taiwanese government started constructing this multiuse venue that combines exhibition space, conference facilities, offices and a hotel for international traders. The world’s second largest lighting expo, the 15th edition Hong Kong International Lighting Fair which runs from Oct. 27-30 this year, successfully kicked off at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center on Sunday. Burlington Arcade, situated between Bond Street and Piccadilly, is one of the oldest and most famous shopping mall in the world as well as a Grade two listed one dating back to 1819. It has been lasting for around 200 years; however, in the 20th Century, the northern end was completely destroyed during the Blitz, leading to a restoration both of building and reputation. Speirs + Majors took a great part in the reconstructing array and lighted the Arcade up aiming to bring its old and classic beauty back.

Locates in Guilin, Guanxi Province, China, the Two Rivers and Four Lakes Scenic Spot is named by its waters -- Li River, Taohua (peach blossom) River, Mulong Lake, Shanhu Lake, Ronghu Lake and Guihu Lake. In 1998, the Guilin City Government had designated the Water Touring System as a primary program when they rebuilt the city. They dredged waters in this area and rearranged scenic spots and architectures in hopes of creating a beautiful space for visitors to come.
