Dutch City Launches Van Gogh Inspired Star Lit Bicycle Path

The Van Gogh-Roosegaarde cycle path will be opened in Eindhoven on 12 November. The opening of this unique cycle path marks the start of the Van Gogh 2015 international theme year. The cycle path is unique. Inspired by Vincent van Gogh’s work, it combines innovation and design with cultural heritage and tourism. The Van Gogh-Roosegaarde cycle path is being constructed by Heijmans from a design by Daan Roosegaarde and forms part of the Van Gogh cycle route in Brabant.

Osram LEDs illuminate the Sistine Chapel

The Sistine Chapel in Rome is now illuminated by a novel lighting solution from Osram. After 500 years, this extraordinary piece of art history can now be experienced in unprecedented quality, bathed in the light of more than 7,000 LEDs. The installation that has been put in place over the last few months is designed to protect the artworks while enabling much stronger lighting. At the same time, it will use up to 90 percent less electricity than the previous installation. The European Union supported the project.

Philips Connected Lighting System to Light Up Lexus Showrooms Across Russia

Royal Philips, the global leader in lighting, and Lexus, a premium automotive brand, unveiled the first Lexus car showroom in Russia outfitted with a unique and connected ambient lighting system that combines LEDs with textile and  dynamic content. The Lexus-Rublevskiy showroom in Moscow has been renovated for the Russian premiere of the Toyota Lexus NX, with Philips luminous textiles creating a dynamic halo of light around the car to attract the attention of customers. By the end of 2014, Philips luminous textiles will be installed in all 45 of Lexus’ showrooms across Russia.

Cornell University Converts 10 Sports Facilities to LED Lighting

Cornell University announced today that Ephesus Lighting, installer of high-output LED lighting at sports and entertainment venues, has been selected to install its system at 12 indoor facilities, including 10 sports venues, at the school’s Ithaca, NY campus. The announcement was made by W.S. (Lanny) Joyce P.E., Director of Utilities and Energy Management and Campus Energy Manager Mark Howe P.E., of Cornell University and Mike Lorenz, President of Ephesus Lighting.

LG Chem OLED Panels Illuminate Pop-Up Restaurant Tincan

 LG Chem OLED Light panels have been used as the main light source at Tincan, a newly opened pop-up restaurant designed by AL_A. The restaurant which was introduced in time for this year’s London Design Festival, serves an exquisite collection of tinned seafood along with carefully selected beer and wine. The decision to use LG Chem OLEDs for the restaurant’s lighting was based on the excellent light quality as well as the design possibilities unique to OLEDs. Moreover, the simplicity of OLEDs enabled the architectural design firm, AL_A, to design and manufacture the lightings themselves.

Eaton Helps Improve Lighting Efficiency and Performance at Denver International Airport

Power management company Eaton today announced its Cooper Lighting Division is helping to improve optical performance and efficiencies at the Denver International Airport (DIA). Replacing more than 5,400 parking garage fixtures, the DIA conversation will include almost 5,000 McGraw-Edison™ Valet™ light-emitting diode (LED) luminaires, helping the airport to save approximately US $327,000 annually or US $6.5 million over 20 years. Construction of the multimillion-dollar project began in May 2014 with an anticipated completion date of November 2014.

Light Festivals are becoming more and more popular in cities around the world. This past weekend, the very charming coastal town of Cascais Portugal, 30 kilometers west of Lisbon, celebrated the third edition of LUMINA- Festival da Luz/Light Festival which also served to commemorate the 650th anniversary of the town. For three colorful nights, Cascais, known for its popular beaches, became the most luminous city in Portugal. From 8pm to midnight, 26 lighting installations by 40 artists were featured along the Path of Light which made its way to 26 public places around the historic centre of Cascais Bay.
