In December 2012, following a US $135 million renovation that united three disparate buildings into one seamless museum, the Yale University Art Gallery opened to the public.  Steven Hefferan of Hefferan Partnership Lighting Design (Boulder, Colo.) managed the lighting for 70,000 square feet of gallery space, and the illumination for more than 4,000 works of art in the galleries.

Mount Rushmore Introduces Unique LED Lighting System

The more than two million visitors who travel to Mount Rushmore National Memorial each year will now enjoy an enhanced night time viewing experience, thanks to an innovative new lighting system with an LED light source that was recently installed at the memorial. The new system, custom designed and manufactured by Musco, will result in substantially less light pollution, while dramatically improving the lighting at the national memorial and saving energy.

Engineers and designers at Prolux Licht took a look at the various requirements of these different user groups and produced a solution that satisfies them all, the Sanapro luminaire. LED technology from Tridonic forms the heart of this modular lighting solution for the Triemli hospital, Zürich. In conjunction with high-performance optical components, the LED modules enable different lighting functions to be integrated in a slim and attractive design.

World’s Largest Metallic Flower Touched Up with LED Light

With a combination of underwater and surface-mounted LED lighting, Royal Philips is helping to restore the iconic Floralis Genérica sculpture in the center of Buenos Aires, Argentina. The enormous 23 meter high sculpture that weighs 18 tons has been given a complete facelift.  Every morning at 8.00am the flower’s gigantic petals open to greet the day and close at sunset with an array of beautiful colors reflecting from its polished steel surface.

Expo Drives Italian City Milan LED Lighting Upgrade

Expo Milan 2015 was the inspiration for the largest roadway lighting project in Europe to date. Milan, Italy expects 20 million visitors for the event, which runs May through October. In preparation, 100,000 of AEC Illuminazione’s fixtures with LUXEON M LEDs were installed, delivering impressive light quality, energy efficiency and environmental benefits. Milan will save 10 million euro in energy cost and emit 20,000 fewer tons of CO2 in its first year alone.
