Power management company Eaton today announced that it has helped improve the lighting performance and energy efficiency in a campus recreation facility at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. When Galina Zbrizher of Total Lighting Solutions in Vancouver, Canada started working in the lighting industry about 30 years ago, lighting design and technologies were still in the early stages of development. She participated in shaping the industry by serving on the Board of Directors of the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD), serving as President of the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) – Toronto Section, a Chair of the IES Hospitality Facilities Committee and active contributor to the IES Design Guide for Hotel Lighting DG-25, by serving seven years on the LIGHTFAIR® International Conference Advisory Committee, and finally as a judge for several lighting design competitions and contributing author for lighting design publications.

In early March, Philips announced the winners of the revamped international lighting design CLUE Competition. The theme this year was Interface. The participants were asked to explore transformative potentials and to define unique lighting innovations that celebrate the activities of both the built and unbuilt communities. Power management company Eaton today announced that its Neo-Ray Index light-emitting diode (LED) luminaires are helping to improve the lighting performance while lowering energy usage in the Gumberg Library at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. Recently completed on its first floor, this LED lighting upgrade will help the university reduce its annual energy consumption for the floor significantly.

“Come fly with me, let’s fly, let’s fly away.” The swing music of Frank Sinatra resonated throughout the new terminal of McAllen Airport, in McAllen, Texas. Lighting designer Daryl Vaughan was running tests on the new water feature at the center of the terminal, making sure all the elements were working correctly. Meanwhile the feature came to life with dancing lights and bubbles coordinated to the catchy tune. That’s when Vaughan noticed the two young children staring at the feature in absolute awe with their eyes and jaws wide open.

After completing a successful lighting upgrade at its sister property, the Meyer Center, MaxLite and Cool City Lights were called upon to retrofit the YMCA of Edwardsville, Illinois ESIC Center and Early Childhood Development Center with energy-efficient LED lamps and luminaires.
