Mitsubishi Electric has released a new AA057QD01 5.7" QVGA color TFT-LCD module with a white LED backlight. This module features a built-in LED driver, which not only can promote reduced production cost but also achieve a more compressed design. Plus, the LCD device does not require any high-voltage inverters, and its enhanced backlight structure design brings down the thickness level to 8.8 mm.

Affected from LED chip sales in the backlighting market decline, Cree’s revenue for 3Q was about $268.4 million, up 59% compared to the same quarter in 2009 and increasing 1.5% sequentially, but the result was weaker than expected before. Cree’s LED chip sales down almost 20% result from weakness in notebook and monitor backlighting demand.Before that, analysts thought the company’s revenues for 3Q would reach $278 million. But the true amount was weaker than expected to $268.4 million.

GE released a good news that scientists from GE Global Research, the technology development arm for the General Electric Company, GE Lighting, and the University of Maryland-as part of a two-year solid-state lighting program with the U.S. Department of Energy had successfully demonstrated a 1,500-lumen LED bulb (a standard 100-watt halogen PAR38 bulb produces 1,500 lumens) that addresses key barriers to more widespread adoption of LED bulbs for general lighting.

Australia Narva has introduced a new line of high powered LED work lamps with flood beams offering 4,500 lumen to an amazing 15,000 Lumens output.   Each lamp can produce a natural white light that is closer to daylight. A typical HID work lamp produces approximately 4,000 lumen.

Verbatim LED lighting, sometimes known as solid state lighting, will be available in wholesale and retail outlets throughout Australia in early 2011. Initially, Verbatim plans to sell lamps focused on the domestic lighting market with the most common shapes and base fittings including A-lamps, candle lamps and directional MR16s, with E14, E27, GU5.3 and GU10 bases. Coretronic Corporation(5371)had posted consolidated sales revenue for 3Q of NT$25,903 million with an operating income of NT$1,360 million, up 1% and drop 10% from the previous quarter respectively. Net income totaled NT$1,133 million, dropped 12%. Net income attributable to equity holders of the parent company was NT$1,052 million with the basic EPS of NT$1.45 per common share.   

More and more Taiwanese display panel makers have involved in the production of AMOLED display, because of the optimistic outlooks of the market for such products. Insists on the opinion that AMOLED displays will replace TFT LCDs as the mainstream display panel for smartphones, Wintek Corp.,has switched part of its existing production lines for TFT LCDs to AMOLED displays. At present, its touch panels have contributed over 70% to the firm`s revenue, and TFT LCDs the remainder.
