Hitachi America, Ltd.'s Digital Media Division announced UltraVision® UltraThin LED Series in its 2010 line of LCD HDTVs. The new Hitachi UltraThin LED models thickness are less than two inches and use the latest high-efficiency LED technology while delivering stunning Full HD 1080p 120Hz picture quality. Compared with conventional LCD models, these models are mercury-free and ENERGY STAR® 4.1 qualified, consuming less power without compromising on image brightness or color vibrancy.

The Department of Energy (DOE) has chosenSpire Corporation as the recipient of a Small Business Innovation Research grant to develop a LED based solar simulator. Spire mainly produces solar simulators using pulsed light lamp light sources. It will develop a next generation solar simulator, based on LED technology.

Unity Opto Technology Co. has tapped supply chains of Japan’s LCD TV brands Sony and Sharp. It plans to start delivery of LED light bars to Sony and Sharp’s designated makers of BLUs  in the fourth quarter of this year, and will be able to attain annual revenue of over NT$8 billion  for the whole year.

Osram releases new flexible, bendable LED light strips LEDsDeco Flex, using for design and decorative residential lighting. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) will in partnership with Stion Corp. of the United States to set up a factory in the Central Taiwan Science Park to produce CuInGaSe2-based (CIGS-based) thin-film solar cells. In this factory, Stion will transfer its CuInGaSe2 (CIGS) PV technology to TSMC in exchange for No.1 pure silicon foundry's pledge to supply it solar cells using the technology.

Bright LED made a deal with a Beijing-headquartered state-run corporation for LED billboards measuring 1,400 square meters. It’s estimated RMB17 million. According to the company’s chairman, J.R. Liao, the company`s revenue for May set a new high of NT$523 million. And it estimated the revenue for June will reach NT$600 million and for the entire year to top NT$6 billion.

Bridgelux released neutral white versions of ES and RS LEDs, with a colour temperature of 4,100K. ES devices offer 400, 800 and 1,200 lm, while RS device delivers add up to 3,400 lm, expanding the existing 3,100 lm warm white and 4,500 lm cool white RS range. ES and RS LEDs are square: respectively 25 and 50mm across. There is also a 'star' version of ES.RS devices operate at 2.1A with a forward voltage of 26V.

Osram Sylvania will introduce LED lamp to take a share of the market in August. The lamp uses 12 watts, 80 percent less electricity than the standard 60-watt incandescent, and emits nearly as much light. It's supposed to last 25,000 hours.          

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has given a reward of $99,927 SBIR Phase I contract to Universal Display Corporation. So Universal Display plans to increase white phosphorescent OLED lighting efficacy to meet Energy Star criteria.

Avago produced HLMP-Ex1A/1B-xxxDV (15°) and HLMP-Ex3A/3B-xxxDV (30°) to follow the European Standard EN 12966-1 for variable message traffic signs. And they are Pb-free and RoHS-6 compliant. These 5mm extra bright LEDs are available in red and amber colors. The maximum LED junction temperature limit of +130°C makes high temperature operation in bright sunlight conditions possible. To reduce the effects of long term exposure to direct sunlight, the lamp epoxy uses UV inhibitors.

Samsung Electronics America Inc. introduced 50 Series LED-backlit monitors. These monitors have four sizes , the 20 inch, BX2050, 21.5 inch BX2250, 23 inch BX2350 and 24 inch BX2450,and each delivers a >95% sRGB color gamut and 170 degree horizontal viewing angle. They contain Samsung’s “Magic Angle” technology, so no matter what angle the image is viewed from, the user can tailor settings to maintain full contrast and color depth.

The Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) conferred the gold award, which is the top award at the International Design Excellence Awards 2010 (IDEA 2010) to Panasonic Corporation for its EVERLEDS LED light bulbs (standard E26 base and compact E17 base).

Vizio provided some details on its 2010 3D TVs, including showing the first 3D model for the U.S. market to offer passive glasses technology. According to Vizio, there exists no 72-inch screen size anymore; the release date has been postponed from "August" to "Q4" of this year; the "XVT Pro" designation has changed to "XVT3D"; and instead of incorporating Bluetooth technology, the glasses will rely on infrared like those of other TV makers.

After the production of blue LED die, the chips inside white LEDs, at its plant in Mihara City on January, Sharp will invest €137m to mass produce blue LED chips in Fukuyama City again.

Delta Electronics Inc. introduced TUV-certified LED lamps to the European Union. According to Delta's executives , the company may market its LED lamps in Europe under brand names, and Germany will be the company's first export destination precedes England and France. It also pointed out that Japan is the world's fastest growing LED lighting market for having expensive electricity fees. And Japan's market for LED lamps has reached eight million units.

GlacialTech Inc., today releases the perfect nature-friendly LED path light. The GL-SD30 is a 34W, battery-powered LED flood light and takes an 11-15V/22-30V DC power supply. Batteries can be placed with these LED trail lights or, because of the safety of this low-voltage LED, power-supply cables for the SD30 can be buried in shallow ditches.

LED TV sales market share expected to be 80% by 2014.And current forecasts for this year are approximately 37.06 million units, sales are expected to increase at an astounding rate to reach around 211.33 million units by 2014.
