Sweeney wrote the paper entitled "A persistent diurnal rhythm of luminescence in gonyaulax polydra".  Paper concluded on how lights of different wavelength have the ability to change flow of a hormone named melatonin and hence affecting human body clock, also known as circadian rhythm (as shown in Fig 1).The most powerful wavelength to do so was found to be that of blue.

NRL Roadmap to Efficient Green-Blue-Ultraviolet LEDs

Scientists at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) have suggested a method that could significantly increase the efficiency of green-blue-ultraviolet light-emitting diodes based on GaInN/GaN, AlGaN/GaN, and AlInN/GaN quantum wells. Their approach could enable advances in solid state lighting and the creation of low threshold lasers and high power light LEDs. Lighting Japan 2014 Ends on a High Note

Lighting Japan 2014 was comprised of three specialized shows, including the LED/OLED Lighting Expo, making it the biggest ever. Running from Jan. 15-17, the show was held at Big Sight Tokyo. Global lighting heavy weights including Philips, Osram, GE, Panasonic, and Toshiba to name a few, all displayed their new products for the upcoming year. LED components were not the only focal point of the expo. Lighting application and high density integration (HDI) systems also draw a lot of attention from buyers and visitors.
