Gradual Upticks in Market Demands Led to Stable LED Bulb Prices in February, says LEDinside

The latest report from LEDinside, a division of TrendForce, finds that the global average price of 40W-equivalent (equiv.) LED light bulbs arrived at US$10.2 in February, down 0.6% from the prior month. The global average price of 60W-equiv. LED light bulbs also fell 0.5% monthly to US$14 in February.   “Though some parts of the U.S. and European markets saw price decline, the prices of LED light bulbs remained mostly constant through February due to stable demand worldwide,” said LEDinside analyst Allen Yu. Prices also stayed relatively unchanged in China as trading fell during the Chinese New Year holidays. On the whole, the outlook of the LED industry is still gloomy and there is no sign of market demand picking up quickly. Thus, prices of LED light bulbs worldwide will stay on a gradual downtrend.   The LED package market in China witnessed only slight price fluctuations during February because of the holiday season. With the exception of 2825 LED products, other LED packages did not experience a notable price decline.

LED Bulb Promotions Triggered Falling Prices in Europe and U.S. in January, Said LEDinside

LEDinside, a division of TrendForce, reports that both the 40W-equivalent (equiv.) and 60W-equiv. LED light bulbs suffered decline in their global average retail prices in January. The price of the 40W-equiv. dropped 3.3% from December to US$10.3, while the price of the 60W-equiv. ended up at US$14.1, amounting to a 2.5% monthly decline.   LEDinside analyst Allen Yu said that U.S. and European lighting vendors maintained their promotional pricing through the turn of the year in order to boost sales, so some products in those markets experienced significant price declines. In China, prices of LED light bulbs fell at a slower pace in January compared with the sharp drops in November and December of last year. Prices of most products have stabilized as many local lighting vendors are shutting down earlier for the Chinese New Year holidays. In Asia’s other regional markets, prices will remain in a downtrend. The LED package market in China is also seeing a slowdown in trading as the country prepares for the upcoming holiday season. Some LED packages experienced sharper price drops in January.

LEDinside Estimates Automotive LED Market Value to Reach US $2.29B by 2020

LED manufacturers are branching into the niche application markets as the competition in their industry expands. Currently, entering the automotive LED market is regarded as a blue ocean strategy because the market has relatively few contestants and allows for higher pricing. According to the latest Gold Member Report – 2016 LED Market Demand and Supply Analysis by LEDinside, a division of TrendForce, the worldwide market value of exterior automotive LEDs for 2015 is expected to reach US$1.21 billion. This figure is projected reach US$2.29 billion in 2020, translating to a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 8% during the 2015~2020 period. Additionally, the market value of standard-power LEDs is gradually declining in contrast to the rapidly rising market value of high-power LEDs. In the future, automotive LED application will take off in the high-power LED market.

LEDinside: Singles Day Sales Pushed Down November LED Light Bulb Prices in China

The latest report from LEDinside, a division of TrendForce, finds that the global average price of 40W LED replacement light bulbs fell 3.4% monthly to US$10.8 in November, while the 60W counterparts saw a 3% drop to US$14.6. LEDinside analyst Allen Yu said that the price decline for LED lighting products in November was more significant in China because of online promotional activities during the Singles Day sales. In the European and the U.S. markets, prices returned to downtrend during the same month after experiencing an uptick in October. As for China’s LED package market, demand has been picking up compared with the third quarter but still lags far behind expectations. Currently, the downtrend in the Chinese package market is caused mainly by the decline of mid- and high-power LED package products. The room for further price reduction is relatively smaller for standard LED package products.

LEDinside Projects UVC LED Market to Reach US $356M by 2020

Light-emitting diode (LED) manufacturers are now looking to develop niche application markets that can provide higher margins as the price competition in the LED lighting market has become too difficult for them. Among these niche application markets, ultraviolet (UV) LED has attracted investments from many manufacturers because of its enormous market value. The UV LED market has much higher technological barrier to entry, so prices of its products are several tens of times greater than those of the general LED products. LEDinside, a division of TrendForce, states that the global UV LED market in 2015 is estimated at US$122 million, which is around the same level as in 2014, in its 2015 Global LED Industry Supply and Demand Database Report. The absence of noticeable growth in the market value this year is mainly attributed to the rapid decline in UV-A LED prices (UV-A spectrum is between 320~400nm in wavelength).
