LEDinside:Seasonality Kept Prices of LED Light Bulbs on a Downtrend in July

LEDinside, a division of TrendForce, reports the global average sales prices of 40-watt and 60-watt equivalent LED light bulbs in July fell 0.7% and 0.6% versus the prior month, respectively, to US$9.5 and US$12.9.   “July was the start of the traditional off season for the LED industry,” said LEDinside analyst Allen Yu. “Furthermore, the economic conditions in Europe and the U.S. remained weak, so the demand rebound that occurred in the lighting market was limited to just the second quarter. Retail prices of LED light bulbs slid entering the third quarter, and some products suffered larger price drops on account of promotional activities.”

Liquid Light Switch Enables More Powerful Electronics

Researchers have built a miniature electro-optical switch which can change the spin -- or angular momentum -- of a liquid form of light by applying electric fields to a semiconductor device a millionth of a meter in size. Their results, reported in the journal Nature Materials, demonstrate how to bridge the gap between light and electricity, which could enable the development of ever faster and smaller electronics.

Evluma LED Luminaire Receives IDA Seal of Approval

LED lighting manufacturer Evluma has received the IDA (International Dark Sky Association) Fixture Seal of Approval for its 40W and 70W 3000K CCT LED AreaMax street and area lights. IDA's Fixture Seal of Approval program certifies outdoor lighting fixtures as being Dark Sky Friendly, meaning that they minimize glare while reducing light trespass and skyglow. Certification criteria includes a CCT of 3000K or below and a U0 rating, emitting no light above 90 degrees. Street and area light submittals must also identify an optional backlight shield, available for the AreaMax since 2015.

Osram is expanding its leading market position in the entertainment sector and has acquired certain assets from ADB TTV SAS to continue its business operations. Bolton Council in UK Streetlight Refit Project on Schedule

More than half of Bolton’s street lamps have now switched over to new LED lighting - and work is on target to finish in 2018. Replacement work continues throughout the borough and almost 15,000 lights in 2,463 streets have been upgraded, since the rollout began in April last year.
