Gloucestershire County Council in UK is celebrating replacing 10,000 lamps with LED technology across the county.

The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) published NEMA LSD 74-2016 Considerations of Field LED Driver Replacement. This new white paper discusses issues related to the field replacement of drivers in LED lighting fixtures, and how several aspects must be considered to ensure that the replacement driver will function the same as the original driver.

Acuity Brands announced an agreement with Target to provide smart lighting technologies, featuring energy saving LED fixtures and dimming controls. In written comments filed with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) emphasized its support for federal energy conservation standards and efforts by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to prevent noncompliant products from entering the country. However, NEMA expressed concern about the DOE’s strategy regarding noncompliant products and recommends that government agencies better utilize available data to protect consumers from illegal imports.

Philips Lighting, a global leader in lighting today announced that it has signed a patent license agreement with the US company Amerlux. The license, based on Philips Lighting’s EnabLED licensing program’s published terms and conditions, provides Amerlux with full, worldwide access to a wide range of basic LED control and system-level technologies. As a result of the agreement, the outstanding litigation between the companies related to patents offered under the EnabLED licensing program for LED Luminaires and Retrofit Bulbs has been dismissed.  To date more than 200 US companies have joined the EnabLED program and Amerlux is the second to be announced within a week.
