The U.S. Department of Energy's CALiPER program has released a new Snapshot report on linear LED lamps, commonly known as TLEDs. 

The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) announced that ANSI Accredited Standards Committee C136 published ANSI C136.49-2016 American National Standard for Roadway and Area Lighting Equipment—Plasma Lighting. This new standard defines the electrical and mechanical requirements of plasma type light sources for use in roadway and area lighting luminaires.

India’s lighting sector has enjoyed accelerated development recently. The scale of the country’s LED lighting market in particular is projected to expand 47.1% year on year in 2016 to US$1.14 billion, according to the 2016 Indian Lighting Market Report by LEDinside, a division of TrendForce. By 2020, the Indian LED lighting market is forecast to grow to US$1.715 billion. Joanne Wu, assistant research manager for LEDinside, said the Indian government plans to make their country the export hub for lighting products going to East Asia. At the same time, major international lighting vendors such as OSRAM and Toshiba have also set up production bases in India for supplying the global market. Driven by domestic and overseas demand, the Indian LED lighting market is expected to witness soaring growth in the near future.

Taiwanese LED manufacturer Harvatek's revenue growth was incremental during first half of 2016. However, following its success in LED thread technology, the company intends to supply related products to the market by second half of 2016, resulting in turn around of its financial performance.

Product development in the LED industry has changed significantly over the past years, shifting from boosting lumen efficiency to prioritizing light quality. Diminishing size of the annual Guangzhou International Lighting Fair in China was first observed in June 2015, but the extent of the shrinking fair accelerated in 2016. The global average sales price (ASP) of 40-watt equivalent LED light bulbs in June fell 0.2% compared with the prior month to US$9.5, says the latest price report from LEDinside, a division of TrendForce. The global ASP of 60-watt equivalent light bulb also dropped 0.1% monthly to US$12.9.

By the end of the summer of 2016, Northampton in Massachuseets, U.S. plans on replacing all of the city’s public streetlights, over 2,000 lamps, with new LED lights saving the city an estimated US $170,000 in operating costs annually.
