LEDforum 2010 is a two-day event organized by LEDinside and the Taiwan Industrial Technology Research Institute. The agenda for the first day covers on LED components and equipment trends. There is a particular LED jack-o-lantern, which can scroll the message HAPPY HALLOWEEN. Installed in this lantern is a 5×14 matrix of LED, spaced apart by printing out a grid on paper, taping it to the pumpkin, and drilling 70 holes into its face. According to the creator of this machine, the hardest part of the whole process was inserting all the lights into the pumpkin through the back.

Philips unveiled the new dimmable 12 watt Master LEDbulb, which is considered the industry's first LED replacement for the common 60 watt incandescent light bulb used in New Zealand .  

AOC have rolled out six new models of LED backlit displays, including the e2343fs, e2343f, e2243fw, e2243fws, e2043fs and the e943fws ,which have 16:9 aspect ratios and are ghost free thanks to the fast 5-millisecond response time.

Philips has launched its 42-inch Econova LED TV, which has acquired the European Green EV 2010-2011 Award given by the European Imaging & Sound Association. The new TV features 40W of power consumption in eco-mode and offers some other eco-friendly credentials such as a solar-powered remote control, e-manual and the use of recycled aluminum panel.

In 3Q10, Epistar's consolidated revenues reached NT$5.68 billion, up 8.3% sequentially. Gross margin was 40.7%, up from 39% in 2Q. Operating income was NT$1.7 billion with operating margin of 30%. Net profit was NT$1.9 billion up 12% sequentially. For the first three quarters of 2010, Epistar consolidated revenues totaled NT$15.9 billion, gross margin 39.5%, and operating income NT$4.63 billion with 29% operating margin. Net profits were NT$4.6 billion with an EPS of NT$5.81.

LG Electronics’ consolidated revenues reached 13.4 trillion (US$ 11.3 billion) for 3Q10, a 2% decline year on year, and Net profit was 8 billion.

The streets of Wallingford, America have got a LED makeover lately. The Wallingford installations are part of a Seattle citywide upgrade to LEDs that began this summer. City Light will install 5,000 LED streetlights in residential neighborhoods in 2010 and a total of 40,000 during the next five years. The 2010 installations will take place from the Ship Canal to 65th Street.

USDA (the U.S. Department of Agriculture) has given a $4.88 million grant to Purdue University for evaluating LED lighting use in greenhouses.

Momentive Performance Materials, Inc., will launch a new series of thermally conductive silicones , which will be used increasing the performance and service life of LEDs and LED assemblies.   The thermally conductive silicones will be offered as the TIA (News - Alert) series of curable thermal gels and adhesives and TIS series of curable thermal compounds.

ATMI, Inc. has invested a minority interest in Lake LED Materials of Daejeon, South Korea, a materials technology company which focuses on providing metal organic precursors to the LED market.

Lite-On Technology (2301) reported 3Q worldwide consolidated sales of NT$31.86 billion, up 20% YoY, while posting a net profit of NT$2.53 billion with EPS of NT$1.14.

Taiwan-based LED maker Epistar has partnered with China Electronics Corp. (CEC) to build a joint venture, which will bring in a large number of MOCVD chambers, and concentrate on production of epitaxial wafers, chips, light sources and lighting products in southern China. It's reported that each company will hold a 45% stake in the joint venture, leaving the remaining 10% to another partner.

LED luminaires can now be made simpler and more efficient thanks to the new 150° beam angle of the OSRAM OSLON SSL 150. Retrofit and downlight designs in particular, will benefit from the even distribution of light from the new OSLON SSL 150, which allows designers to better manage the light in external reflectors. Additionally OSLON’s small footprint can simplify the design of lamps and luminaires and facilitate low profile designs.

Taiwan-based LED sorting and semiconductor testing company YoungTek Electronics (YTEC) announced financial result during the time from 1Q to 3Q in 2010. Revenues reached NT$2.188 billion with an average gross margin of 43.67%, and net profits went to NT$628 million (US$20.48 million), with EPS of NT$6.58.

Currently, Russia imports 98 % of its LED lighting, but this situation will change. State funding and investment from private companies is setting up a domestic LED infrastructure and companies all over Russia dedicated to LED lighting technologies are emerging.

According to Gibler, the CEO of Lighting Science Group Corp. at an interview in Bloomberg headquarters in New York, the company has attracted potential buyers seeking to make use of increasing sales in energy-efficient lighting.

Larson Electronics has launched the first member of a new LED blasting light line up with the BL24-LED 72 watt waterproof LED blasting light, which can be available in the tank, vessel or manway.

According to a Rapid City traffic engineer John Less in America, since changing over to LED traffic lights three years ago, the city has achieved positive results, so it's going to make a pilot program on LED street lights. The city is using a $49,000 federal grant to replace street lights on Main and St. Joseph streets with two different bulbs to see which one produces the best results. Main Street will get LED street light fixtures while Saint Joseph will get induction fixtures similar to fluorescent bulbs.

LEDs America will join a growing roster of "green" employers at TechCity, Ulster County, promising to add as many as 100 new jobs here. It's said that roughly two-thirds of TechCity's industrial space has been snatched up since 2008 by solar energy companies, green building suppliers and other enviro-friendly businesses.
