Pumpkin Lantern Gets a LED Makeover

There is a particular LED jack-o-lantern, which can scroll the message HAPPY HALLOWEEN. Installed in this lantern is a 5×14 matrix of LED, spaced apart by printing out a grid on paper, taping it to the pumpkin, and drilling 70 holes into its face. According to the creator of this machine, the hardest part of the whole process was inserting all the lights into the pumpkin through the back.

Philips Launched 42-inch Econova LED TV

Philips has launched its 42-inch Econova LED TV, which has acquired the European Green EV 2010-2011 Award given by the European Imaging & Sound Association. The new TV features 40W of power consumption in eco-mode and offers some other eco-friendly credentials such as a solar-powered remote control, e-manual and the use of recycled aluminum panel.

Epistar and Formosa net profits for 3Q achieved NT$1.9 billion and NT$446 million, respectively

In 3Q10, Epistar's consolidated revenues reached NT$5.68 billion, up 8.3% sequentially. Gross margin was 40.7%, up from 39% in 2Q. Operating income was NT$1.7 billion with operating margin of 30%. Net profit was NT$1.9 billion up 12% sequentially. For the first three quarters of 2010, Epistar consolidated revenues totaled NT$15.9 billion, gross margin 39.5%, and operating income NT$4.63 billion with 29% operating margin. Net profits were NT$4.6 billion with an EPS of NT$5.81.

Wallingford of America Gets a LED Makeover

The streets of Wallingford, America have got a LED makeover lately. The Wallingford installations are part of a Seattle citywide upgrade to LEDs that began this summer. City Light will install 5,000 LED streetlights in residential neighborhoods in 2010 and a total of 40,000 during the next five years. The 2010 installations will take place from the Ship Canal to 65th Street.

Epistar Partnered with China Electronics to Build Epistar-CEC venture

Taiwan-based LED maker Epistar has partnered with China Electronics Corp. (CEC) to build a joint venture, which will bring in a large number of MOCVD chambers, and concentrate on production of epitaxial wafers, chips, light sources and lighting products in southern China. It's reported that each company will hold a 45% stake in the joint venture, leaving the remaining 10% to another partner.

LED luminaires can now be made simpler and more efficient thanks to the new 150° beam angle of the OSRAM OSLON SSL 150. Rapid City Makes a Pilot Program on LED Street Lights

According to a Rapid City traffic engineer John Less in America, since changing over to LED traffic lights three years ago, the city has achieved positive results, so it's going to make a pilot program on LED street lights. The city is using a $49,000 federal grant to replace street lights on Main and St. Joseph streets with two different bulbs to see which one produces the best results. Main Street will get LED street light fixtures while Saint Joseph will get induction fixtures similar to fluorescent bulbs.
