Joby Designes a Hands-free and Tactical LED Flashlight

Joby has designed a hands-free and tactical LED flashlight Joby Gorillatorch Flare. It is made of black ABS plastic (flashlight housing and legs).  There are grip rings made of TPE to make the flashlight easier to hold on to and to help it grip onto surfaces.  Each leg ends in a strong neodymnium magnet.  The feet and some of the grip rings are a bright red.

TXC planed to invest in the LED market

As the sapphire market became stronger, Taiwan quartz components maker TXC planed to develop sapphire and other crystalline products. It is reported that the company will establish crystal growth capacity and start production in February 2011. Also, wafer slicing and sapphire substrate manufacturing is in the new crystal growth processing operations. TXC planned to invest total NT$300 million (US$9.7 million) initially, with focus on 4- and 6-inch sapphire substrates development.

LEDinside: Dramatic Demand Decline Pulls Down the LED Price in Q310, Down Pressure Expected to Exist in Q4

LEDinside, the LED industry research institute has released its latest LED price trend report, showing that the LED price plummeted sharply in Q3 2010 due to the sudden decline in the LED application demand including inventory adjustment resulting from less-than-expected large-size panel demand and sluggish lighting application demand.  The LED price for large-size panel application fell around 11-16% while the high power LED for lighting application slumped more than 17%. As for the mobile application, LED price kept roughly flat with about 3-4% seasonal erosion thanks to the relatively stable demand.

Kinmen Operates LED Street Lamps for Energy-saving and Carbon Reduction Program

Taiwan's outlying island of Kinmen has installed a new system of LED lamps for street lighting as part of the county's low carbon energy-saving efforts. As the county government was awarded a grant by the Ministry of Economic Affairs' Bureau of Energy to finance the plan, Sixty-nine automated LED lamps were installed on a section of the island's Huandao East Road, replacing the previous sodium and mercury street lamps.
