With an integrated lens, the new IR LED SFH 4236 exceeds the radiant intensity of the standard IR Dragon SFH 4232 by more than a factor of three. This new, powerful device has a very small form factor and adds depth to the well-known infrared Dragon family. The integrated lens concentrates the emitted infrared light within a viewing angle of +/-20° and achieves a typical radiant intensity of 650 mW/sr at a DC current of 1 A. Fallon Luminous Products Corp., a leading manufacturer of lighted signs, announced that yesterday the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington D.C. overturned the earlier decision of the District Court in Cookeville, Tennessee, and ruled in favor of Fallon in its appeal of a patent infringement suit brought against Fallon by iLight Technologies. Dialight plc, the UK based leader in applied LED technology, announces the acquisition of BTI Light Systems A/S ("BTI"), a Danish company offering signaling and safety equipment for the wind, marine and airport industries. BTI is being acquired from its management for a total consideration of DKK 26m (£3.0m), DKK 18m (£2.1m) of which is payable in cash with the remainder in Dialight shares.

AIXTRON AG announced today a new order for more Planetary and Showerhead HB-GaN LED MOCVD tools from Jiang Su Can Yang, a joint venture with Formosa Epitaxy Inc. (FOREPI), an established AIXTRON customer and one of Taiwan’s leading manufacturers of ultra high brightness (UHB) LEDs. Jiang Su Can Yang placed the order in the fourth quarter of 2009. The Planetary Reactor® systems in a 11x4 inch configuration and Close Coupled Showerhead® tools in a 31x2 inch configuration will be delivered between the second and the fourth quarter of 2010.

The new 'DoubleDome' series from Sharp incorporates three white light SMD LEDs with a colour rendering index (CRI) of 85. A silicone globe top applied directly on the phosphorous, with lens-like moulding, facilitates highly efficient light extraction. Sharp is supplementing its LED lighting portfolio with three new white 'high colour rendering', high-performance LEDs. The 'DoubleDome' LEDs from Sharp already provide suitable light for energy-efficient lighting without secondary optics.

OSRAM Opto Semiconductors today held an opening ceremony for its 35,000 square meter new LED wafer fabrication plant in Penang, Malaysia. It is the company’s first ever LED chip plant in Asia and currently the most modern facility in the world. The plant will produce chips for light emitting diodes, the light source of the future. Y.B. Veeco Instruments Inc., announced today that Seoul Optodevice Co., Ltd. (SOC) of Korea has selected Veeco's TurboDisc(R) K465i(TM) gallium nitride (GaN) Metal Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition (MOCVD) System to expand their manufacturing capacity of high brightness light emitting diodes (HB-LEDs). In addition to orders placed in 2009, SOC placed a multi-tool order during the second quarter of 2010, with all tools currently scheduled for shipment during 2010.
