AIXTRON AG has announced an order for one Close Coupled Showerhead MOCVD system from Tyndall National Institute, based in University College Cork (UCC), Ireland. The order was received in the fourth quarter 2009 and the system will be delivered in the first half of 2010 in a 3x2 inch wafer configuration.

Philips Lumileds has published a new white paper titled “Evaluating the Lifetime Behavior of LED Systems” that provides the lighting industry with a methodology for evaluating how arrays of LEDs behave over time and how LED luminaire manufacturers can confidently make business decisions such as warranty commitments.

This paper presents a 75W single-stage power supply unit for LED lighting. The proposed power supply designed using flyback converter topology that is controlled by the critical conduction mode control. The secondary side of main transformer is directly connected to LED strings. By a constant current feedback circuit, this flyback converter directly regulates LED current. Although the proposed circuit doesn’t need input current-sensing and input voltage feed-forward, it can achieve high power factor for wide input range. A prototype experimental set-up has been built and tested. Through this experiment with a prototype set-up, the validity of the proposed circuit is verified.

This new, powerful device has a very small form factor and adds depth to the well-known infrared Dragon family. The integrated lens concentrates the emitted infrared light within a viewing angle of +/-20° and achieves a typical radiant intensity of 650 mW/sr at a DC current of 1 A. The new infrared Dragon is well suited for applications with limited board space that require narrow radiation characteristics.
