Meijo University orders AIXTRON CCS® MOCVD system for GaN based UV and white LEDs

AIXTRON AG today announced a new order for one Close Coupled Showerhead® GaN based LED MOCVD system from Meijo University, in Nagoya, an established AIXTRON customer in Japan. The order was received earlier this year and the system will be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2010 in a 3x2-inch wafer configuration.The local AIXTRON support team will commission the new reactor at Meijo University.

VEECO Second Quarter 2010 Financial Results made new record

VEECO has stated its financial results based on GAAP for the second quarter ended June 30, 2010. According to John R. Peeler, VEECO 's Chief Executive Officer, the second quarter revenue has made a new record of $253 million, an increase of approximately 250% from last year and 55% sequentially. LED & Solar, Data Storage and Metrology, continue to execute extremely well, with sequential improvements in revenue and EBITA.

Marl's new 4.5W Citizen CL-L251 LED

Marl has created a new 4.5W Citizen CL-L251 LED, which delivers 290 lumens of light output at a colour temperature of 3000K with good colour rendering "Ra85", equivalent to a standard 20W MR16 halogen. The range is available with colour temperatures up to 5000K, delivering up to 425 lumens from 4.5W. Compared to 16 lumens per watt for a halogen light,The CL-L251 has a luminous efficiency of up to 106 lumens per watt. Because of the drive voltage of the CL-L251 is 9-10V, it can be packaged as a drop-in replacement for the standard halogen light.

According to researchers at Chonbuk National University and electronic components companyLG Innotek in South Korea, they have been using SAG to improve the performance of vertical nitride LEDs grown on sapphire. TSMC to set up new Taiwan plant

TSMC will set up a new plant with more than $9.4 billion in Taichung, Taiwan. The new plant has a total site area of 18.4ha and will have a building area of 430,000sqm and clean room area of 104,000sqm. It's reported to create 8,000 jobs over the next few years. Fab 15, in Taichung's Central Taiwan Science Park will be TSMC's third GigafabTM, or fab with capacity of more than 100,000 300mm wafers per month, and will also be TSMC's second GigafabTM equipped for 28nm technology.
