Everlight to illuminate two downtown streets in Prague

Everlight Electronics Co. Ltd. announced that the company’s LED-based SL-Dolphin street light will illuminate two streets in the Czech capital Prague within the scope of a pilot project that tests various street lights based on LED technology. The test series, carried out by Eltodo, the Czech lighting designer and nationwide electric installation service company, in cooperation with the city administration of Prague, aims at gathering experience with and accurate information on seven LED street lights of six different suppliers.

Welland’s LED lights up Banff Park Museum

Welland's CRS Electronics will see its LED exterior lights showcased at Banff Park Museum. Completed just before the Olympic Torch Relay passed through Banff, the 73 exterior lights enhance security around the museum and highlight the exterior of the recently restored wood structure. The combined electricity consumed by all 73 light-emitting diodes is less than that used by a single 400-watt incandescent light bulb.

3XN has designed an LED luminaire – GOTHAM, which uses solar energy for efficient street lighting. Seven lamps have been erected at Bella Center in Copenhagen in conjunction with the upcoming UN Climate Summit The street lamp is a result of a close co-operation between 3XN, Scotia Lighting, EWO and a number of other partners.  The goal was to create a sculptural and CO2-neutral street lighting solution.  The advanced technology results in the street lamps generating more energy than they use.

Siemens Lights up the World’s Biggest Revolving Christmas Star

Siemens announced the completion of the unique and pioneering technological project together with Munich multimedia artist Michael Pendry. The lighting installation consists of 9,000 Siemens Osram light-emitting diodes (LEDs) that are as bright as around 20,000 Christmas candles. Yet the entire installation uses only as much electricity as a hair dryer or a water kettle. In good weather, the art object can be seen for 30 kilometers.

Copenhagen Twinkles in a Climate-Friendly Glow

Right on time for the first of Advent, the big Christmas tree in front of Copenhagen's City Hall sparkles in the glow of 800 LED lamps supplied by OSRAM. With this move, the company is taking a stand on energy-saving lighting on the occasion of the UN climate summit to be held in the Danish capital from 7 to 18 December 2009. The energy required is intermittently generated by 15 muscle-driven cycles which are in daily operation at set times. All in all, this saves 9 tonnes of CO2.

Scients Developed Inexpensive LED Lighting with Solar Cells

Scientists at the Risø National Laboratory for Sustainable Energy in Denmark have developed an inexpensive way to integrate solar cells, LEDs, and ultrathin lithium batteries to create a lamp that can produce reading-quality light. The lamp's polymer solar cells and circuitry are printed onto large flexible plastic films, and the LEDs, flat batteries, and diodes are mounted using silver epoxy. After being encapsulated in a second sheet of film, the sheets are rolled up and snapped together at the corners with metal fasteners.
