Ultratech to Build a New International Headquarters in Singapore

Ultratech is about to set up a new international headquarters in Singapore on December 6, 2010 to better serve its large customer base in Asia. And it is scheduled to begin shipping lithography systems to customers in Q1 of 2011. The Singapore facility will engineer and manufacture its lithography systems and other related products, including lithography steppers for advanced packaging and HB LEDs and modules for the laser spike anneal systems.

Jiangxi Changda Increases HB GaN LED Epiwafer Capacity with AIXTRON MOCVD Tools

AIXTRON AG today announced an order from Jiangxi Changda, a new customer in the southern province of PR China. Jiangxi Changda has ordered two AIX 2800G4 HT 2 inch MOCVD tools. The new HB GaN LED growth reactors have been successfully installed and commissioned by the local AIXTRON support team at the company’s facility.

Epistar Partnered with China Electronics to Build Epistar-CEC venture

Taiwan-based LED maker Epistar has partnered with China Electronics Corp. (CEC) to build a joint venture, which will bring in a large number of MOCVD chambers, and concentrate on production of epitaxial wafers, chips, light sources and lighting products in southern China. It's reported that each company will hold a 45% stake in the joint venture, leaving the remaining 10% to another partner.

Genesis new factory in Kunshan began construction

Recently, LED epitaxial wafer and chip maker Genesis Photonics has began construction for its joint venture with the Kunshan city government in China. The first stage engineering of the joint venture will host 50 sets of MOCVD machines. In the new factory, Genesis has held 51% stake, and Kunshan city government has held the other stake. The new factory will start production in Q3 of 2011 and will be the largest LED chip and lighting manufacturing base in China.

The Chinese government invested over 10 billion yuan to develop innovative green technologies

It's reported that the Chinese government has invested over10 billion yuan (1.47 billion U.S. dollars) in research and development of green technologies for the 2006-2010 period. Zhang Laiwu, vice minister of science and technology at a press conference in Beijing pointed out that, China had developed key technologies that could cut greenhouse emissions . More than 1.6 million LED lights were being used in 21 cities in a pilot program to promote the use of LED lights, which will save more than 164 million KWH of electricity annually.

Chang of the Executive Yuan, Taiwan’s Cabinet, a delegation of over 60 executives from 20 Taiwanese high-tech manufacturers recently set out for the United States to hunt for talents in Silicon Valley and Boston.
