Rohm and Lumiotec Developed a New OLED Lighting Panel, to Start Shipping Soon

Rohm developed a new (2nd-generation) OLED lighting panel that uses a red phosphorescent material. US Consumer Product Safety Commission Recall Commercial LED Lamps

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, due to a potential fire hazard, around 42,000 LED lamps which are made by Maine-based Eco-Story are being recalled voluntarily. When used with a Class II transformer, the lamp can overheat and cause a fire risk. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported, but there have been two reports of overheating. These lights were sold only to commercial clients between December 2007 and August 2010. The affected 12-volt lamps have the UL number E316865. LEDinside: demand recovery not in sight; pressure of 2010 Q4 LED price decline expected to extend till 2011 Q1

According to the latest price survey by LEDinside, an LED research division of TrendForce, in 2010 Q4, demand from LED applications still has not recovered, including continued inventory adjustment of large-size panels and lower-than-expected demand from general lighting. As a result, pressure of LED price decline extends from 2010 Q3. Among them, price of LED for large-size panel applications fell by 5% -9%, with most substantial decline in TV backlight applications; high power LED lighting applications declined by more than 12%. Due to relatively stable demand from mobile phone applications, LED prices in this segment are fairly stable with a mere 3% seasonally adjusted decrease.

City of Novato Makes a Streetlight Test

It’s said that city of Novato is in the process of conducting a streetlight test to get public feedback in its selection of energy-efficient fixtures. Four LED fixtures have been installed between Rowland Boulevard and Adele Drive, and four induction fixtures were installed between Arthur Drive and Yukon Way. All lights being considered would reduce monthly energy costs by about 40 percent and reduce routine maintenance costs three to four times that of the current fixtures.
