Zumtobel's LED lighting system has joined the contemporary interior design of the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe in Hamburg. The Museum now attracts its guests in an entrance hall flooded with light. According to the museum's technical director, Thomas Frey, thanks to the professional technical support provided by Zumtobel,they have achieved a highly attractive result.

Taiwan Huga Optotech Loaned NT$ 2 bn. from six banks to expanse its LED capacity

Taiwan LED maker Huga Optotech has signed a NT$ 2 bn. syndication loan agreement with Hua Nan Commercial Bank. Taiwan Cooperative Bank, Industrial Bank of Taiwan, Mega International Commercial Bank, Chang Hwa Bank, and The Shanghai Commercial & Savings Bank, also financed the deal.

Mantra to secured LED lighting products for the District of North Vancouver

Climate ESCO Ltd. (CE), a wholly owned subsidiary of Mantra Venture Group Ltd.  has secured a demonstration project using its new LED lighting products for the District of North Vancouver. The District is utilizing the Northlands Golf and Country Club for the project and CE is now under way to retrofit the entire club house LED interior lighting system. The installation is anticipated to be completed by the end of September 2010.

SEMICON Taiwan is to be hold

The  three-day SEMICON Taiwan 2010 is going to hold in Taipei and over 2,300 people have signed up to attend. Neo-Neon orders ten more AIXTRON MOCVD systems for LED production

AIXTRON AG has announced a new order for ten more CRIUS® 31x2-inch configuration deposition systems from Neo-Neon International Ltd. The China based company placed the order in the fourth quarter of 2009 and when the systems are delivered in the period between third and fourth quarters of 2010, they will be used for GaN ultra-high brightness (UHB) blue/green LED production.

Most Taiwan LED makers August revenues become lower than last month

As Inventory adjustments by panel makers and lower inventory of CCFL panels and CCFL TVs, most Taiwan LED packagers, chipmakers August revenues become lower than last month. LED chip packaging Unity Opto Technology August revenues slip 4.6% but up 58% on year to NT$670 million (US$20.979 million). The total income in 2010 until August 31 reached NT$4.62 billion, which more NT$4 billion than the whole 2009.

Kenosha selected Amerlux LED to retrofit its downtown area lights

The city of Kenosha, Wisconsin, US recently selected Amerlux's LED Acorn Retrofit lamps to retrofit 750 of its downtown area lights. It's said that the Public Works Committee of the city of Kenosha unanimously approved the Amerlux contract on Aug. 16. The City Council offered a nearly $1 million federal grant to fund the project.

Major LED packagers released financial reports for the first half of 2010

Taiwan major LED packagers revealed financial reports in the first half of 2010. Among the peers, Everlight ranked the first with after-tax net earnings of NT$3.7 per share. It scored NT$1.4 billion (US$43 million at US$1:NT$32) in after-tax profit over the first half of 2010, more than double the amount it made a year earlier.

Epistar published gross margin target in Q310

Taiwan-based LED chipmaker Epistar reported that the company's final target in Q3 of 2010 gross margin would keep at 35%,in spite of a demand slowdown from the LED-backlit TV segment. According to the company, the revenues of September would impair because it planed to adjust its shipment mix facing the slide forms. And Epistar hoped the share of blue LED capacity into September could reach 100% and red LEDs reach about 75~85%.

Taiwan's LED streetlight project estimated to cut down 50% of electrical consumption

Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) is scheduling to use LEDs to take the place of 800,000 working mercury streetlights. It will be worth of NT$22 billion (US$687 million), and be completed in 2011. When the project is completed, it estimated to cut down around 50% of electrical consumption from current level by mercury streetlights, according to senior MOEA officials.
