PetroCard Lights the Way to Savings With Energy-Efficient LEDs at Fueling Stations

PetroCard, a fuels distributor, announced plans to upgrade 15 of its fueling stations with energy-efficient Light Emitting Diode (LED) overhead fixtures which will reduce the company's energy use and associated costs by more than 40 percent. LEDs have already been installed in the canopies at three PetroCard facilities in Kent, Pacific, Lynnwood, as well as a PetroCard supplied "76" branded station in Seattle. The additional 12 stations throughout Washington state will be completed by the end of 2010.

Veeco Awarded $4M in R&D Matching Funds from DOE Solid State Lighting Manufacturing Grant

Veeco Instruments Inc. announced that it has been awarded $4 million in R&D matching funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act by the U.S. Department of Energy to support high-efficiency solid state lighting projects. Solid state lighting, which uses light emitting diodes (LEDs) and organic LEDs (OLEDs) has the potential to be ten times more energy-efficient than traditional incandescent light bulbs.

According to LEDinside’s latest price trend report, the growing shipment in LED backlight and lighting application led to a shortage in the chip supply. As a result, the white LED prices remained flat in 4Q09: Prices for backlighting dropped slightly by 1-3%, while prices of high power LEDs remained stable.
