US ARMY Upgrades Four Airfields with Avlite Solar Powered LED Airfield Lighting

The US ARMY has ordered multiple airfield lighting systems from Avlite Systems Inc to be installed at four forward operating airfields in northern Iraq. This order fulfills a critical requirement to ensure the ongoing safety and maintenance of these airfields by replacing other airfield lighting systems that have reached end of life. The Army will be using the more than 875 solar powered LED airfield lights on runways, thresholds, taxiways, apron edge, obstructions and helipads.

Raleigh-Durham Airport Receives $2.5m Grant for LED Lighting Project

The Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority has received a $2.5 million grant offer from the N.C. Department of Transportation's Division of Aviation. The Airport Authority board accepted the grant offer today at its monthly meeting. The grant will partially fund the replacement of more than 2,000 runway and taxiway lights with energy efficient light emitting diode (LED) fixtures. The state grant requires the Airport Authority to match 10 percent of the total grant offer.

Pittsburgh International Airport to Switch to LEDs with $800K Grant

The Pittsburgh International Airport has get an $800,000 grant to install LED lighting, a county executive Monday announced. Nearly 1,500 LED Lights will be installed in parking lots, and garages in the airport. The lights that will be replaced are in the long-term and extended parking lots as well as the three-level parking garage at the airport. The LED lighting system will consume an estimated 83 percent less energy and result in $158,754 in annual energy savings, with 2,118,438 kWh saved over the project's lifetime.
