LCD chipmaker Formosa Epitaxy reported October 2010 revenues of NT$400.72 million (US$13.31 million), down 0.04% sequentially but up 58.86% on year. In November, the company pointed out that demand for TV backlighting was picking up on which revenues depended, but the growth was not as significant as in 2009, and December revenues were expected to drop as clients went through inventory stock checks.

TFT LCD driver IC maker Himax Technologies 3Q10 revenues were US$138 million, down 26.3% sequentially but still meeting its adjusted forecast. And gross margin increased 2.5pp to 22.9%. Quarterly net income came to US$400,000. Non-driver IC products accounted for 8.4% in 3Q revenues.

QD Vision, Inc. has signed an agreement with Solvay to develop a printable electroluminescent platform for quantum dot LEDs (QLEDs) that will lead to a new generation of solid state lighting products.  

Visualization specialist Barco has released a new line of LED-lit, DLP-based video walls with an improved LED engine. The new series features an advanced heat management system based on liquid cooling technology, which brings the LED temperature down to the optimal level. Carmanah Technologies Corp has supplies its EverGEN(TM) 1530 solar LED lighting systems as part of a pilot project to help a major electric company in the United States for illuminating a power generating facility parking lot. According to Ted Lattimore, Carmanah CEO, it’s the third power generating station in the US to install Carmanah EverGEN solar LED lighting technology.

The Power TOPLED SFH4250S from OSRAM Opto Semiconductors emits almost double the infrared light compared to the standard component SFH4250. The new IR-LED achieves a radiant intensity of typically 22 mW/sr and a total radiant flux of 70 mW in continuous operation at 70 mA driving current. With its high radiance the component allows the design of very compact lighting units. In existing designs the effective range can be increased significantly.

Lite-On Technology Corp. (TW 2301) reported October consolidated revenue of NT$10.32 billion, up 10% on year. The sales growth was attributable to Lite-On’s ongoing expansion in market share, coupled with stable demand. Cumulative sales from January through October reached NT$103.2 billion, up 32% Y-o-Y.
